Why do you go to the State Fair??
I go to eat.
Seriously, the animals, the rides, the shows......not the main event as far as I am concerned.
But the food.....well, that is an entirely different story!
We went to the Minnesota State Fair for the first time this year.
And boy, did we eat!!!!
Not 10 feet into the gates, we had to make a corn dog/gyro pit stop!
Then we made a bee-line to the chocolate covered bacon.
Yes, I said CHOCOLATE. COVERED. BACON.
It was alright....not super spectacular, but interesting.
Avery did some street dancing and drew in quite a crowd....made Mama proud!
Landon and I took a spin on the Ferris Wheel. He loved waving to all his "friends" from way up high!
Then off to the animal barn area. We did stop to see a few animals, but our main purpose over there was the ice cream and milk stand.....FRESH milk!
The ice cream was a hit!.....Of course!
Then back to the animals....we went in the baby center and saw a cow and pig give birth (poor cow; at least my babies weren't quite so knobby on the way out!)
The kids liked meeting this 1 day old little lamb.
Let the food conquest continue......the roasted corn was a MUST on my list.
It is so popular that you have to get a ticket BEFORE you get in line to get the corn....but it was worth it!
Avery gnawed on the cob for a loooong time.....teething??
On our way to the bucket of cookies, we saw a Dippin' Dots. Remember back to our trip to PCB?? The Dippin' Dots place had closed and we were bummed! Landon saw the sign at the fair and we HAD to make a stop!
Not to be deterred, we were still on a mission for the bucket of cookies.
And we made it!! Too bad they didn't last the rest of the day.....
On a good note, the cookie stand also had more of those fresh milk fountains.
What goes better with fresh baked warm chocolate chip cookies than ice cold milk??
Before we left, we had to let Landon get on a few rides....he didn't want to do too many, just the "Big Slide". And he did it......4 times!!
On our way out I was still looking for either fried pickles or fried olives (sounds weird enough to enjoy!) but both lines were over an hour long......for FRIED VEGGIES!!
So, I found the Fried Green Tomatoes.....for a southern girl like me, it was a more than acceptable compromise!
Next year we will have to try the Bloomin' Onion and the Double Dipped Bacon Wrapped Foot Long Corndog (whew!).....and we will bring plenty of Tums!
