Is it for dogs or kids??

We found a new place to be on nice days!!

Although it is called a Dog Park, I am pretty sure I could just leave the kids there too!

Acres of fenced in grass where 4 and 2-legged pets can just run??

Sign me up!!

I mean, the dogs had fun and all.....

....but I think it worked out just as well for the kids!

We brought some kites for them to play with, which attracted several other 4-legged "pets" from other people.

With all the fresh air and sunshine today (and lack of nap time), I am pretty sure an early bed time and long, hard sleep is in our future!  Success!!

Hairy Babies

They consider themselves part of the family too......

May as well just go with it!

They better enjoy the lap space for now....it will soon be taken over by a much smaller member of the family!

Keeping up in KC

So, here we are in KC.

We have been here for 6 weeks now, and while it doesn't seem to have been that long, we have kept up as best we can with "normal" parts of our life.

We are getting to stay with Adam's parents right now, so the kids have tons of opportunity to play with the grandparents and do all kinds of fun "stuff"....like help in the kitchen.

And do some "work" outside.

And just hanging out with Mimi.

A KC staple that I am more than happy to introduce to the kids is Taco Tuesday....our first Tuesday here and we were first in line!

Valentine's Day came and went.  The kids were somewhat confused since it wasn't Christmas, but there were treats left out overnight by somebody....
Must  not have been too much of a problem, since they dove right in!

Another reason KC was such an exciting option for us was that my Granny lives in Joplin, just a couple hours away.  We are looking forward to many more regular trips down to see her and let the kids get to know her!

And of course, when we see Granny, we make a stop at Braum's!!

We can't forget that a little lady also had a big birthday recently!  Our little girl is 2 now!!!
I am not sure where the time went on that one, but nonetheless, we no longer have a baby!

She loves this baby doll....she saw it in the store and just ran to it.  "Baby!! Baby in jammies!!"
She is going to be a great big sister.

We have made ourselves pretty regular fixtures at the library here too.  Landon loves to play there and pick out books to take home and read....over and over and over!

Have I mentioned the weather here??  It is beautiful!!!!  The kids have hardly worn jackets, and when they do, it is just a light windbreaker.  They love being outside with sidewalk chalk and just soaking up some Vitamin D.

If we ever do have a rainy, yucky day, we have found this awesome place called Fun Run here.  It is a place full of bouncy houses and jumpy things.  It is a padded room full of things to climb on....parent's dream come true!!!  The kids love it!

Adam enjoys it too....

And, although I have had a few bumps in the road, it seems everything is moving along nicely with Baby Girl.  I mean, if the success of a pregnancy was measured in growth alone, I would say this one is going to be a solid winner!!
This is 32 weeks:

And she is pretty cute too, if I do say so myself!!
This is 30 weeks from the inside:

Just in case there was any doubt, the foot size says it all.....Adam is 100% this one's Daddy!!!

Happy Saturday!!  Enjoy the sunshine.....if you have any.  :)

Life as we Know it

You know what is special about plans?

The more you think them through, create alternates, toil over them, worry about them....

......the less likely they are to actually come to fruition.

Such is the life I am living in right now.

When Adam and I decided to go ahead and take this fantastic job opportunity here in KC, we laid out and plotted the best plan ever.  We had plans B through G covered and everything was going to work out exactly as we intended it to go.

How dumb could we have been???!!!

Absolutely nothing thus far has gone according to the "amazingly wonderful-never-gonna-fail-even-if-we-tried plan".

And that is OK.

Although there have been changes and deviations to "the plan", we are on track to something great, and who wouldn't  be happy about that?!

For example, the original plan for the house in Duluth was as follows:
Sell it in a couple weeks, a month tops, and use our mortgage payment to supply a rental property for us short term.  We get to keep the moving bonus money and house hunt at our leisure.

Reality of that:
Duluth decided to extend its already cold winter a bit and dump upwards of 7 FEET of snow in the month we have been gone.  Not exactly the kind of weather people like to go out and look at houses in.  We are pleased to say that the house is now under contract and should be closing soon!!
As for the rental property part of the puzzle.....rentals must be insulated with gold at the prices we have seen!!!  We anticipated having to double our mortgage in order to find a short term lease, allow pets, utilities, and get a few pieces of furniture.  We have looked all over and considered all options, including apartments, long term hotels, RVs, and on-the-market houses.  Double the mortgage??  Try triple if you want a deal!

The plan for the new house:
We would find The One in a few house hunting trips and get everything signed and closed and moved in in no time! HA!!!

Reality:
We did find a house that met every need and want we had and were so excited about it!  But, since we hadn't sold our house in Duluth yet, and the builder did not want a contingency offer, we lost the house to another bidder.  On the bright side, we met with the builder, found a wonderful lot in a cul-de-sac, and made some personal changes to the floor plan we fell in love with.  Deposits have been submitted, plans approved, and the building process has begun!
But we are homeless until August......

Plans for Baby Girl:
Clearly the plan was to have a house before she comes along.  Easy end to the pregnancy, new place, wam, bam, done.

Reality:
She will be 3-4 months old before we have our own house.  And an easy end to the pregnancy??  Nope.  First, doctors were worried that I was too small and there were fetal growth issues.  If you saw me, you would wonder what on earth about me is small right now!!  But anyway, had an ultrasound.  She is growing just fine and is right on track.  But then I find out I have gestational diabetes.  No fun.  Now, the doctors are all concerned that she will get too big.  So more ultrasounds, appointments with the diabetes dietician, and regular check ups.  You know what they told me was one of the factors that contributes to GD?  Stress.  What on earth do I have to be stressed about???!!!

So here is life as we know it right now......We are the kids that move back home to our parent's basement with no sign of leaving in the short future.  Add to the mix 2 very busy toddlers, a new baby, 2 large dogs, and a railroader's schedule that is anything but normal, and you may start to see a glimpse of our reality!

At least KC came with gorgeous weather and sunshine so I can toss kids outside and say "Mommy needs a break!"  Then Daddy can get a bit of uninterrupted sleep too!

In the Meantime...

Landon's interpretation of things can be so funny sometimes.....logical, but funny nonetheless.

Tonight, getting everyone ready for bed, I told him to go get his teeth brushed and go potty.

He said he wanted Avery to go first, which normally is the order of things.

She was "busy" playing with Grandpa, so I told Landon that she would still go to bed first, but just to get his teeth brushed "in the meantime".

His response......."No Mom, not in the meantime.  I will do that in the good time."

Think about it......mean time, good time....

Kid has a point!
